There are more than four hundred and fifty thousand elderlies with vision impairment in Hong Kong who are much more likely to suffer from mood disorders according to studies. Amid the pandemic, the social-distancing measures prevented the visually-impaired elderlies from going out or participating in social activities, leading to the deterioration of their mental health. To actively respond to the mental health needs of the visually impaired elderly who live in nursing homes during the period, The Hong Kong Society for the Blind (HKSB) implemented a mental health project, Mindful Music last year. Building upon the positive feedback of this initiative, HKSB is looking to promote the Mindful Music project in the community of caregivers for the visually impaired elderly, encouraging them to use music to improve the mental health.
